New “Archive” master page added (using text from old site) and rough versions of the first two pages added.
“Study Corner” wouldn’t drop down on the menu when using an iPad – it does now. Previously it was just a custom link to the “Under construction” page. Now it’s a page of its own.
WordPress theme changed to Hemingway to give full width text on pages. This gives a better presentation of the Artefact images.
Some fiddling with the Header image was necessary to get it to sit (more or less) right. I like the way the header compresses as you scroll down, giving you more vertical space.
Background colour changed to pale yellow – not sure whether I like this or not (I made it a lot paler 01/11/2015)
Three groups of photos added, provided by David Cousins: Torquay Borough Electricity Department, CAO Plymouth, SWEB Helicopters.
Photos were successfully added in small batches and (in the case of the helicopters) as a single zip file.
Data was exported from DC’s Access database to Excel, then into a CSV file, which was successfully imported.
1. There is a single set of 10 custom fields which will have to be applied to all albums.
2. Should there be multiple “categorised” small albums?
3. Both albums now appear on the Artefacts page, not clear why (This has since been sorted)
The shortcodes for the description to be displayed has to be entered against each photo – there isn’t a default description format for each album. Maybe this could be part of the bulk upload from the CSV file?
I only copied the shortcodes for Artefacts, so some data like location and copyright is not displayed. But that’s minor, and could be corrected easily.
It took about 100 minutes to import 120 photos and their data.
Ipad doesn’t drop the submenu items down. May need to change from Twenty Fourteen theme to something else?
This seems to be a common problem with 2014 theme. I googled “wordpress twenty fourteen ipad menu dropdown” and found quite a few references.
See https://wordpress.org/support/topic/menus-on-ipad – use UberMenu plugin or similar?
*** SOLVED THIS *** – see post “Lots of changes” 31/10/2014.
As another issue, investigate Media Library Categories plugin?
Data for Artefacts uploaded via CSV files.
The data can be seen when you display the Artefacts in Slideshow or All mode.
The data was a bit time-consuming to clean up – I derived it by copying from the old site – but better data may be available from the original database.
The photos are large and you have to scroll down to the description etc – need to tweak.
Supersearch code added to start of Artefact page, but typing in a text string might be better – need to investigate.
Loaded WP Photo Album Plus plugin.
First album – some of the collection photos – are visible on the Artefacts page (under Study Corner on menu)
